General

About Steel Boyz

We are based at 1360 Ralph Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11236 in East New York. Our fabrication shop is where every piece of custom ironwork is built before installation.

We serve all five NYC boroughs — Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island — as well as Long Island and parts of New Jersey.

Steel Boyz Iron Works was founded in 2015 and has been operating out of Brooklyn ever since. We have completed over 2,000 projects across New York City for homeowners, property managers, contractors, and developers.

No. Every piece is fabricated by our own crew at our Brooklyn shop. We do not outsource or subcontract our fabrication. The people who build it are the same people who install it — that is how we maintain quality on every job.

Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM. We are closed Saturday and Sunday. You can reach us by phone at 845-393-1085 or email us at Office@steelboyz.com and we will get back to you the next business day.

We serve all five NYC boroughs — Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. We also work throughout Long Island and parts of New Jersey. If you are unsure whether we cover your area, just call us and we will let you know.

Quotes & Pricing

Getting a Quote

Yes — all estimates are free. We come to you for an on-site visit, take measurements, assess the job, and provide a written quote. There is no obligation to proceed.

Most estimates are scheduled within the same week. Fill out our quote form or call 845-393-1085 to get started.

Written quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of issue. After 30 days, material prices may have changed and we may need to revise the quote. Verbal estimates are approximate only and are not binding — only our written quotes are final.

Yes. A 50% deposit is required to schedule the job and begin fabrication. The remaining balance is due upon completion of installation before our crew leaves the site, unless other payment terms are agreed upon in writing.

Your quote is fixed as long as the scope of work does not change and you confirm within the 30-day validity window. If you add items, request changes, or if conditions on site differ from what was visible at the time of the estimate — such as structural issues or code requirements — we will notify you with a revised quote before proceeding.

Steel is a commodity and material prices can fluctuate. If there is a significant movement in steel prices between the time of your quote and when materials need to be purchased, we will notify you before proceeding. We never surprise you with unexpected charges.

Railings — stoops, porches, decks, rooftops, ADA-compliant handrails

Yes. We handle the full range of structural steel work — from a single lintel over a wall opening to complete structural steel packages for entire buildings. This includes multi-story framing, beam and column systems, floor steel, and all structural connections.

We work directly with structural engineers, architects, and general contractors and can work from stamped drawings or coordinate the engineering as part of the project. Whether it is a single-family renovation or a full commercial build, we have the capacity and experience to handle it.

Yes. We produce detailed steel shop drawings for fabrication and installation. Our drawings are used by engineers, architects, and general contractors and for NYC DOB submissions. We deliver in CAD and PDF format.

Shop drawings can be provided as a standalone service or as part of a larger fabrication and installation project. Contact us for pricing.

Yes. We work from architectural drawings, engineering plans, structural drawings, or simple sketches. We can also take field measurements ourselves and produce the necessary shop drawings from scratch. We coordinate with engineers and architects throughout the process when required.

We do both. We handle new fabrication and installation as well as repair and restoration of existing ironwork. Common repair jobs include fire escape structural repairs, railing replacement, staircase reinforcement, rust removal and repainting, and weld repairs on any steel structure.

We offer several finish options depending on the application:

Powder coating — available in any RAL color, extremely durable, ideal for exterior applications
Primer and paint — rust-inhibiting primer with topcoat, standard for fire escapes and structural steel
Galvanizing — for maximum corrosion resistance on exterior or marine-adjacent applications
Raw/mill finish — for interior applications or when the client is finishing the piece themselves

We will recommend the right finish for your specific application and environment.

Fire Escapes

Fire Escape Work

Yes. All our fire escape installations and restorations meet NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) code requirements. For new fire escape installations, we coordinate plans and signoff as part of the project. We work with licensed engineers when required for DOB submissions.

Yes, this is one of our most common jobs. We inspect the fire escape, identify what needs to be repaired or replaced, perform the work, and help you document it to resolve the violation. Common violation issues include deteriorated drop ladders, corroded platforms, failed welds, and loose gooseneck ladders. Call us at 845-393-1085 and we will schedule an inspection promptly.

An initial inspection typically takes 1–2 hours depending on building size. Repair timelines vary by scope — minor repairs and repainting can often be completed in a day or two, while full restoration or new installation on a multi-story building may take several days to a week. We will give you an accurate timeline in our written quote.

Process

How It Works

1. Contact us — call, email, or fill out the quote form on our website. Tell us about your project and we will get back to you quickly.

2. Plans or field measurements — depending on the project, you can send us your architectural drawings, structural plans, or shop drawings, OR we come out to the site and take measurements ourselves. We work whichever way fits your project.

3. Written quote — you receive a detailed written quote covering full scope, materials, and pricing. No verbal estimates — everything is in writing.

4. Deposit — a 50% deposit confirms the job and puts you on our schedule.

5. Shop drawings — if the project requires it, we produce shop drawings before fabrication begins. These are submitted for engineer review, DOB approvals, or GC coordination as needed.

6. Approvals — for DOB-related work, fire escapes, or larger structural projects, any required permits or approvals are handled before fabrication starts.

7. Fabrication — everything is built at our Brooklyn shop by our own crew to the approved drawings and specifications.

8. Installation — our crew handles installation on the agreed date. We coordinate access and work cleanly.

9. Final payment — balance due upon completion before our crew leaves the site.

Simple jobs can go from contact to installation in 1–2 weeks. Larger structural or DOB projects are scoped with a realistic timeline during the quote phase.

Yes. All of our employees hold the proper OSHA certifications and fire safety licenses required to work on construction sites and buildings throughout New York City. We take job site safety seriously — our crew works in full compliance with NYC and OSHA regulations on every project, from residential stoops to full commercial structural jobs.

We can provide copies of certifications upon request, which is commonly required by general contractors and property managers for larger jobs.

For most railing replacements, stoop handrails, window guards, and balcony railings, permits are typically not required. However, requirements vary by building type, borough, and scope of work.

Fire escapes always require DOB coordination. Structural steel work that affects the building structure usually requires engineering review. We will advise you during your on-site visit on what is required for your specific job.

It is always your responsibility to obtain any required approvals from your building management, co-op board, or landlord before we begin work.

Yes. Steel Boyz Iron Works carries general liability insurance. We can provide a Certificate of Insurance upon request and can name your property manager, building owner, or general contractor as an additional insured — just let us know before work begins.

We warranty all installed work against defects in workmanship for one year from the date of installation. If something is not right, we come back and make it right — that is our guarantee. See our Terms & Conditions for full warranty details and exclusions.
